Mike Martin

Owner
Originally from Winnesboro, a quaint country town known for cotton and soybean farming in north Louisiana, Mike was born the son of a contractor. As one of thirteen children Mike was taught early that a firm handshake and honest word was enough to form a lifelong friendship and contract. With “sawdust running through his veins” since he was a young child, fine craftsmanship and quality construction are an integral part of Mike’s heritage. After building close to 200+ new homes over the past 35 years, Mike had the unique opportunity to give back and renovate another 110 homes within a year after Hurricane Katrina. With his wife of over 30 years and two beautiful children by his side, Mike’s commitment to family, community and delivering quality homes to his clients remains priority one.

1

Locate your dream location.

We can build on your land or we can help you find the perfect location.

2

Find your dream plan.

We are very flexible with regard to design. We can work directly from your plans or we can recommend a local designer/architect who can help you create your own design. We can also offer assistance with selecting the features and finishes for your new home.

3

Establish your budget.

Building a home requires a strong collaborative effort between you and your builder. Your builder should be an expert with respect to how much things cost and can make many recommendations as to the pros and cons of various features with an eye on their effect on the bottom line. Preparing a detailed budget is a significant expenditure of time and it’s important to know if we are at least in the ballpark before starting on a detailed proposal. We can usually give you a rough price range estimate after we see your plans and have a preliminary discussion about the house features. This way, we can both agree it’s worthwhile to move forward.

4

Line up financing.

If you require financing, we’ll be happy to recommend banks with which we have a working relationship.

5

Prepare a proposal.

While you are finalizing plans for your house, we can discuss our fee structure. We offer various pricing structures including a lump sum, a fixed fee or cost-plus. We will discuss each and help determine which one is best for you.

6

Sign a contract.

Once we’ve agreed on the proposal and your plans are finalized, all parties will sign a Contract to Build. This document incorporates the proposal as well as any other construction documents (like the plans) and is the formal agreement governing our relationship during the building process. At the time the Contract to Build is signed, we will establish a proposed start date and anticipated completed date for the project.

7

Build your home.

Now, we get to the good part. During the building process, we will provide you with regular updates and photos of works in progress. If changes arise, we’ll handle those through our Change Order process to ensure that all details are tracked. When construction of your new home is completed and the Certificate of Occupancy is obtained, we’ll conduct a final walk-through with you and if necessary, create a punch list to be completed prior to possession.

8

Take occupancy.

When the punch list is completed and final disbursement of funds is made, you are now ready to move into your new home.

Trends in 2014 – Wired

Integrating smart technology into home design is important to homeowners.  Currently, most are asking for appliances, lights, and alarm systems that can be controlled from their smart phones.  Little details, like outlets with built in USB chargers or digital command centers are becoming mainstream.  And, many homeowners are asking for Ethernet wire to be run […]

Consumers are placing more value on American made products, and homeowners are asking for American made building materials as well.  Smart businesses will be touting their red, white and blue roots hoping to connect with homeowners who prefer to buy “Made in the USA” rather than from an overseas competitor.  Comsumer Reports sees this as one […]
